There are few known details about the project thus far, but it is believed that the project began as a pitch from writers, Andrew Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, who served as co-producers on Funny People and sold the pitch The Best Thing About Pam Rooney to Universal last year.
The new project, which Rogen’s producing partner Evan Goldberg assembled, will pit Rogen, playing an average guy, against Efron’s frat boy.
Rogen was last seen in 2011’s The Green Hornet and has been filming My Mother’s Curse opposite Barbra Streisand.
Zac Efron (who shot to fame through the High School Musical pictures) can next be seen in New Year’s Eve which is due out later this year opposite Robert de Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ashton Kutcher and Hilary Swank.
This sounds like an interesting prospect? I mean, Rogen and Efron are coming from completely different spheres of film (and by the sounds of it, Efron is the one coming out of his safety zone of tweeny romance?). In my head, this could go a few ways, either Efron could be out of his depth with some of comedies biggest names of the moment or Rogen could embarrass himself starring against one of Disney’s finest? But personally, I think this could work and the two could have a dynamic which they could play against each other… hopefully a film with a more adult edge.
Zac Efron dined with a party of 8 at Japonais Sunday. The former “High School Musical” star is filming an untitled movie with Dennis Quaid in DeKalb County.
Billy Corgan sat front row at WWE Money in the Bank event at Allstate Arena Sunday. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman cheered on Chicago-area native CM Punk during his victory over John Cena. Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil had drinks at the Original Mother’s in the Gold Coast Friday.
The Dallas Mavericks’ Shawn Marion sat on the patio outside Tavern on Rush Sunday.

The strange saga of Zac Efron’s extra nipples begins in my email inbox, where an email from a publicist landed this afternoon. Dermatologist Dr Sandra Lee wants the world to know that Zac Efron has a third – and possible fourth – nipple. Her publicist included a photo with an arrow pointing to a Wahlbergian speck on Efron’s chest. How have we never noticed this before?
Supernumerary nipples are generally aligned along “mammary lines.” (Think of a female dog.) And so, when a man like Zac Efron has nipple-hued specks located symmetrically along his mammary lines, there is a strong possibility that they are “superfluous” nipples. As if male nipples weren’t superfluous enough already.
But are Efron’s chest specks really nipples? They could also dimples between his muscles. In Buzzfeed’s “25 Best Pictures of Zac Efron Shirtless” gallery, the maybe-nipples are visible in images 2, 6, 7, 10, 24, and 25. But where are they in images 1, 11, and 23? Shouldn’t maybe-nipples be consistent than that? Is Zac Efron a multi-nippled changeling?
A brief Google search reveals that, though superfluous nipple bloggers (yes, they exist!) have speculated about Efron’s nipples, the chatter has not broken into the mainstream. Until now! Thank you, Dr. Sandra Lee of Upland, California and PR spammer Katherine Rothman, for alerting us to this egregious blind spot in modern discourse.

Zac Efron to shoot an untitled movie in Iowa next weekend.
NEWTON, Iowa — Officials with the Iowa Speedway in Newton said Thursday that a movie crew and two big-name Hollywood stars are expected to shoot part of a movie at the racetrack.
Actors Zac Efron and Dennis Quaid are expected to be at Iowa Speedway on July 16 to tape scenes for a new, as-yet untitled racing movie. Fans are invited to be part of the movie magic.
Tickets for the Prairie Meadows 200 ARCA Series Stock Car and Coca-Cola 200 presented by Hy-Vee NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races are on sale for $25 at www.iowaspeedway.com/ZacandDennis.
Fans purchasing tickets online will be entered into a drawing, and 100 lucky winners will have the chance to participate in the pre-race festivities and could appear in the crowd scenes in the movie, speedway officials said.
The film is an Iowa-based movie starring Efron as a rural teen aspiring to become a professional race car driver. Quaid plays Efron’s father in the film.
Producers will shoot Efron walking across the pre-race stage, Quaid cheering from the stands and stock car racing footage during the Prairie Meadows 200 scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m.
“There are a lot of racetracks in America and we are very excited that Mr. Bahrani chose Iowa Speedway as the set for his movie,” said Iowa Speedway President Jerry Jauron. “I hope fans will take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see A-list celebrities and be part of a movie. Let’s show the film crew what Midwestern hospitality is all about!”
The Iowa Speedway is located 30 miles east of Des Moines at I-80 Exit 168 in Newton.
Tickets are available at 1-866-RUSTY-GO or www.iowaspeedway.com.
Thanks to @SparksNicholas for an exclusive photo of Zac Efron with Nicholas’ assistant Stephanie near the set of the film The Lucky One in New Orleans last fall. From Nicholas Sparks’ WhoSay Account via his facebook:
NicholasSparks– « If relationships were hard, mariage was even harder…it seemed like most couples struggled. It went with the territory. What did Nana always say? Stick two different people with two different sets of expectations under one roof and it ain’t always going to be shrimp and grits on Easter.” — Nicholas Sparks (THE LUCKY ONE) The film is scheduled to hit theaters in January 2012! Here’s an exclusive photo of Zac Efron with Nicholas’ assistant Stephanie near the New Orleans set of the film last fall. »

Big news from HOLLYWEIRD: Zac Efron is a GENIUS! No, not because he’s beautiful or because his body is the best on the planet (waist size: 24) (go get ‘em, ladies!), but because he is one introspective, philosophical bro 4 life.
Seriously, just because High School Musical may be, like, cat food for the human brain, it doesn’t mean that the guy isn’t extremely intelligent and capable of questions that challenge what his place in life actually means to the rest of the world. Where does a beautiful and brilliant person fit into the larger scheme of things, and how is he supposed to leave a legacy of relevance and truth?
Zac Efron and Dennis Quaid are both starring in the untitled movie by director Ramin Bahrani and filming is set to begin this summer. Ramin has already written the screenplay for the movie and now the filming commence date has been officially confirmed.
Filming for the untitled movie is set to begin on August 1 just outside of Chicago. The movie centres around a farmer whose insistence on manic expansion begins to drive a wedge between himself and his family. Quaid is set to play the farmer, while Efron is likely to be one of the sons.
Zac Efron will have quite a busy year ahead of him as he is due to start filming his next flick, The Paperboy, in the coming weeks. He will have very little break between the end of filming The Paperboy and the beginning of filming the Ramin Bahrani movie. Zac Efron can next be seen in the rom com New Year’s Eve, out on December 9, 2011. Dennis Quaid will next hit the big screen when the remake of Footloose is released on October 14, 2011.
Kidman would replace Sofia Vergara, who dropped out of the drama on Friday.
The Paperboy is running into some delivery issues.
The drama, being directed by Precious helmer Lee Daniels, was to have starred Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron, Tobey Maguire and Sofia Vergara, with production scheduled to begin later this summer.
But Maguire dropped out of the project last week, throwing a wrench into the proceedings and causing the shoot to be pushed back. The delay then intruded on Vergara’s Modern Family shooting schedule, prompting her to drop out of Paperboy on Friday.
But the producers are acting quickly to buttress up the cast and are now in talks with Nicole Kidman to step into Vergara’s shoes. McConaughey and Efron are still in at this point.
Paperboy centers on a reporter and his brother who investigate the events surrounding a murder in order to exonerate a man on death row. Kidman, if her deal can be made, will play a woman with a dark side who writes letters to men on death row. She brings the case to the attention of the reporter, developing a relationship with him.

MORE than £10.5 million of investment in the Manx movie industry has been written off, MHKs were told this week.
Further details were released in the House of Keys about the investments made by CinemaNX after it emerged Treasury had approved funding of nearly £34 million on 13 film projects since 2007 – but the island’s movie industry brought in only £6.3 million of income in that time.
Figures released by Treasury Minister Anne Craine in the Keys show that of the investments totalling £33,887,401 had been made by CinemaNX, by far the biggest sum – £11,723,782 – had gone on the production of Me and Orson Welles, starring Zac Efron and released in December 2009.
But the same movie also accounted for the biggest investment write-off – £7,599,980 out of total write-offs of £10,575,577.
Receipts totalling £1,936,857 had been made from Me and Orson Welles.
CinemaNX invested £2,911,000 in A Bunch of Amateurs, starring Burt Reynolds and released in December 2008, but had to write off most of that money – £2,258,031.
That film has brought in receipts of just £524,319 so far from CinemaNX.
The remaining write-off concerned the 2010 film Heartless, in which £1,415,000 had been invested. Heartless has made £538,789 for CinemaNX but £717,566 had to be written off.
Mrs Craine, who was replying to a series of questions from Peter Karran (LibVan, Onchan) also provided details of directorships in Isle of Man Film Ltd and CinemaNX.
She insisted none of the directors associated with Isle of Man Film Ltd had received any fees or emoluments and nor had Treasury financial controller Clive McGreal, who is director of CinemaNX.
There were calls in Tynwald in December for more scrutiny of the film industry after the public accounts committee presented a report. Public accounts committee chairman Clare Christian MLC said the fund’s ‘modest’ aim was to break even.
